So, fellow scrubs, we fucking did it. We made it to over 100 individual viewers on Tuesday! I am so grateful for everything this blog has accomplished, I hadn’t even bothered to set goals because I didn’t want this to be a chore, but a passion. Yet, here I am, so incredibly thankful for the 100+ of you who have been so amazingly supportive and it’s blowing my mind. I promise I will find some way to make it up you, because you all truly deserve it. Thank you for making something that’s been so much fun for me something that actually, also, matters. I literally could not, and can not, do it without each of you. So, please accept my heartfelt “thank you” before we get into the special, 100+ blog post:
2017 Fashion Photo Booth
Do I work for Vogue? No. Have I ever been to a fashion show in Milan? Also no. So it’s important that you understand these are just my novice opinions on what’s going to be in this summer. Although, not to toot my own horn but, toot-motherfucking-toot, I have called out fashions trends months, if not years, before they actually “became a thing”. Including: white spring dresses, skinny jeans, return of crop tops, rose gold, and pastel pink accessories.
“But, Cat. You dress like a total knob and don’t even match 90% of the time”. Well, thanks for the reminder, pal. My pockets have never been deep and, truthfully, I don’t give a damn. I might look frumpy or silly, but that’s just my personality- I know it isn’t for everyone, but don’t hate on my clothes just because it isn’t your thing, sheriff.
I’m including what I call a “photo booth” in the space below which includes photos taken from my pins on Pinterest or loves on Instagram. Just click on the photos that you’re most interested in (hopefully that’ll be all of them) and a brief description, by me, will also appear in case the photo isn’t self explanatory. If you’re on a computer, you may have to use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to view the full description, but scrolling works fine on cellphones. Before we begin, I just want to thank you all one more time, you have truly been great and this blog has been a bigger adventure than I would have ever imagined it could be. Let’s keep it going!
Augh, okay, this is 100% my most favorite thing ever: the satin, noodle-strapped, lacy tank. It’s classy, fun, and sexy, not to mention hella comfortable. Plus you can wear it with anything, but it’s probably best to stick with highwaisted denim. And don’t forget to TUCK IT IN, otherwise it’ll be too overpowering. Honestly, it doesn’t need to be lacy or satin-like, but it should have defined cups or a deep V if you wanna look extra snatched.
Leather fringe EVERYTHING. Jackets, bags, shoes, shorts, hats, jewelry. I know the fringe was a thing last year for some people, but it’s going to be coming back with a vengeance while the grungy 90s vibes continue to grow more popular. These pieces work effortlessly into most any outfit and just add an extra punch of top bitch. Seriously. Buy one.
Okay, so I know that this palette by Too Faced came out last summer–but seriously. They were ahead of their time which is why it did so well. Peach and peachy tones are coming back, mark my words. Be prepared for peach, pink, and rose gold EVERYTHING this summer.
I don’t think this trend will apply to everyone, but those of you who have to dress up in business attire frequently, or are just looking for something new and classy, these vinyl collars will do the trick! They come in many colors and styles, I’m convinced the best one will be the one you like the most. So don’t over think it when purchasing one. You look the most beautiful in what you love to wear.
Holographic make up. I don’t know why we call it that, since there isn’t anything really “holographic” about it, but it looks sick as fuck. It’s basically a product which has multiple tones/colors built into a shimmery base, like this two-toned blue and silver/white eyeshadow and dupe. I think the eyeshadows are highlighters are perfect, but the lipsticks are still pretty dope, even if they’re not for me.
You’re probably sick of the word “cropped’ by now, but I’m sorry, it isn’t going away anytime soon. Probably because ANYBODY can make it work, and look snatched! I’m thinking pastel colored, cropped, comfy sweatshirts with name brands on the front are going to be all you see around bonfire this year because they’re both comfortable and stylish. (Bonus points if it’s an indy or out-of-date brand!)
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m constantly losing my choker/tattoo necklaces, and that’s why I think this trend is going to catch fire. Not only do billowy, cropped shirts look great on everybody, but these ones come with built in accessories that aren’t constantly needing to be readjusted but still look dope AF. Also, note these circular glasses: thanks to the popular Snapchat filter, these will also be, inevitably, making a big splash this summer.
Metallic makeup. Sounds totally weird, but is actually hot AF. This may not be for everyday use, but you want to stand out, there is literally nothing more unique or just plain cool looking that looking like you’re drenched in precious metals.
Transparent vinyl everything. I’ve seen a couple purses, rain coats, dress coats, belts, you-name-it floating around on Instagram lately and, I have to say, I’m totally loving it. You can now wear something dope to keep you dry while still being able to show off that outfit you worked so hard to create for the day! Plus, in the case of the bag, it’s nice to just be able to see the contents from the outside and NOT have to dig around for your lippie for 10 minutes.
Hear me out on this one: if you haven’t been highlighting your face, you’re seriously missing out. But that’s not all! Now that we’re getting to shoulder bearing season it’s going to be in to highlight your collar bones and shoulders as well! Because who doesn’t want to glow in the sun and slay it?
This one is going to shock your pants off. If you haven’t heard of it, Demeter Fragrance is a company that creates SUPER unique smells including: dirt, kitten fur, rum and coke, funeral home and paperback books. And more boring scents like Play-do and pizza (just kidding, they do have “normal” scents, lots of them). And each scent is available in different sizes, accommodating all bank accounts, and comes available as lotions, room scents, body wash, maybe even as soy candles (depending on the scent). I don’t think it’s so much going to be what scent you chose so much as the fact that you have something from Demeter’s. I mean seriously, it’s pretty cool, right?
Velvet t-shirt dresses are killer. You’re comfy, sassy, and totally chic in one of these. I think this photo is actually combing two trends though: velvet dresses of any cut, and t-shirt dresses made of any material. These things are going to be a staple in your wardrobe as they’re simple to throw on but still incredibly stylish when paired with appropriate accessories to build a custom look.
So, Coachella is long gone by now, the subtle hippy vibe never dies. I think this summer will see even more of the festival clothing and Instagram makeup than it has in previous years because there’s something so casual yet cute about it that, why the heck not?
This is probably my second favorite for this summer: the embroidered “mom” jeans. Throw on any old top, some cute and comfy as hell jeans, and go do whatever the fuck you want to, because this outfit is hella universal and going to work for everybody, regardless of size, age, gender, color, you name it. Patches also work, but floral embroidery is my favorite.
So, high waisted shorts have been in for a while now–but it’s time to get back to the basics. Get some that fit a little more loosely and which you can roll up to make cute, or leave down when you need more leg-coverage. Also, leave those dark washes and unnecessary bling behind. Go to your local thrift stores and find you some good old worn in, light wash, plain ass shorts.
Block heels and Steve Madden. I don’t really know that I need to say more, but I will anyway: the block heel is back, and for a good reason. Thin heels break more easily, are harder to walk in, and are starting to look out-of-date. Block heels add some flair to your feet while making heels a hell of a lot easier to walk in because of the extra surface area. Bonus points if they’re suede. I have to thank the resurgence of 90s babes’ favorite shoe company, Steven Madden, for these beauts.
Whew! These posts take much longer to assemble than one would think they should. But it is so worth it. I hope you found something you’re totally living (or dying) for and excited to try out this summer. If you have any questions or comments, be sure to either leave a message on this blog or on the specific photo you’re talking about. Don’t be shy!
Also- I’m hereby promising to post more often, so hold me to it.
Lots of love,
